Overview
"Spot" is an app that helps users to find their desired places to create special memories with their loved ones, coworkers, or people they just met. It makes it easy for users to look into a diversity of locations near them with the most information possible to make a trouble-free decision.
Problem
Eliminates the necessity to look for location details in different apps
Design an easy and friendly user experiences
Create an interface capable to explore places by theme
Kickoff
This project begins by connecting the user and the business by providing business detail, updates, sales, and events with just one click. For that, I came across creating a business search engine app that will make it easy for the locals to explore what their city, state, or country can offer. The qualitative research method, competitive analysis and stakeholders support my research to discover key elements to construct the persona for this project.
What does your product do? Why should the user care?
Research
I conducted interviews to understand user pain points and come up with ideas to solve their concerns. I organize the ideas into an affinity map to separate the data into groups of features which will become high levels goals for improvement in information, efficiency, and time. The result provides the ability to focus on developing user goals, problem statements and a value proposition that would work together with the business goals.
Users
Competitive analysis
Even though there is not a search business engine app based in the Dominican Republic, I compiled some potential international competitive companies that would help better understand how the user interacts with each of them; and identify their strength and opportunities.
Results
Lack of insight information based on the specific country Lots of features
Journey Map
Creating user flows provides the understanding of how theuser would interact with the product to obtain detailed information about aspecific place or excursion at the moment of decision making.
Wireframes
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from user research. Review what parts were necessary or unnecessary based on the user journey. After that I would move forward in creating low-fidelity prototypes.
Style guide
The Dominican Republic recognizes for having such a bright population. I was determined to look for colors that express the same bright feeling. Also, try to incorporate the colors of the Dominican flag to some extent into the designs.
Takeaway
Having been raised and born in the Dominican Republic, I wanted to create a digital product where it shows what my country has to offer. Helping locals and tourists discover exceptional places where they can create memorable moments, taste Dominican cuisine, and have a little piece of our culture. Creating a user-centered product, conducting studies, and developing prototypes have helped me understand how to empathize with the user while developing a digital product that addresses their needs and pain points.
